30DC – Day 15 – Check This Tool Out!

30DC15Half way home!  Day 15 was very exciting and it’s definitely going to make life easier for updating twitter, facebook and your blogs.  I’ve tested out a few tools that would combine all of those social networking sites but I always went back to using the individual pages to do my posting and reading.   Even though I still haven’t found a tool I like to read all the posts, tweets and facebook comments (i currently just use my iPhone) , the 30 Day challenge has introduced me to the tool I’ll be using to post to these sites any useful articles, links and just my daily happenings.  This website is called Posterous.

Posterous. Could not be easier.  All  you need is email and you can post to a number of sites simultaneously or just to one, or maybe even two of them.  The key is the email address you send the message to.  Here is the run down on the email addresses…

Just email the right address and posterous will do the right thing.

Post Everywhere? post@posterous.com as usual
Twitter? twitter@posterous.com
Flickr? flickr@posterous.com
Facebook? facebook@posterous.com
Tumblr? tumblr@posterous.com
Any other blog? blog@posterous.com
Posterous only? posterous@posterous.com
Combine them! flickr+twitter@posterous.com

You can also address an email to #{text}@posterous.com and it will post to any site where the url contains that text.  #apple@posterous.com will go to apple.wordpress.com and flickr.com/apple, but NOT banana.blogspot.com.

Once you setup twitter, wordpress and facebook on the site you are ready to go.  The example email below will post to ever social network that I have designated in my posterous account (twitter, facebook and strugglinginvestor blog)

How great is that!

Combine Google Reader and Posterous

If you are like me you follow a lot of blogs, and the best way for me to keep track of all the blog updates is to subscribe to the RSS feeds with Google Reader.

And if I were to read a great blog post (like Shae’s) and wanted to share it, I could very easily by pressing the email link under the post…

and then just send the email to twitter@posterous.com and that’s it.  And you can see the result below…

Twitter posts only what is in the emails Subject and the link to your posterous page which holds the article and link to the actual website (goodfaithinvesting.com in this case).  I wish the twitter link went directly to the actual website, but for now it doesn’t.

Great tool!

The other website 30DC introduced was Propeller (by AOL).  The best way I can describe Propeller is a news site where viewers submit the news to the site.  What you’ll get is a link, a breif discription and a keyword to describe any article you submit.  This is obviously used for backlinking.

My Stuff

I can’t say enough about how much I like what Posterous can do for me when it comes to posting up content to my blog, twitter and facebook accounts.  Blogging was never a problem, but twitter and facebook I was just never able to really keep up with consistently.

Google Reader on the other hand is another must use, nothing beats it in my opinion.  I follow about 40 blogs (and growing) and it allows me to scan all the new posts, read what I want and then move on.  Now with Posterous I will be able to share what I read so much easier.

If you need any help linking up these technologies just post a comment with the question.

P.S.  Look for my Half Way Summary on how I’m doing with the 30 Day Challenge

    1. You aren’t kidding with “so much to do”. I always have to remind myself not to rush, I’m not against a clock and there are no deadlines. Take one thing at a time. aaaaa, i feel more relaxed just typing that 🙂

  1. Great post, Scott! I’ve gotta get some of this stuff going on my end. I opened a Digg account and definitely intend to do that free WordPress and Blogspot site to post my articles and increase my backlinks. Ah…so much stuff to do 🙂

    1. Yea, my goals are about 80 percent concentrated on getting my license (hyper focused if you will). My other goals have been to get through the 30 day challenge in 30 days or less. Those two things have pretty much taken up my time recently. After I have my license watch out for all the offers! Ingrid also lent me a probate course that I’m going through to give me direction on handling them. With the Probate website I’m using for the 30DC and the probate course i’ve learned so much about probate that will come in to play when I start getting leads from my internet marketing. I’m getting really focused again and getting excited, my plan is starting to come together.
