30DC – Day 10 – Article Submission

30DC10It’s web 2.0 week in the thirty day challenge! Day 10 was about submitting your articles to ezinearticles.com and scribd.com.   We also got some pointers on how to optimize articles for your keywords.

Promoting your articles on web 2.0 sites like these is a tremendous way for getting traffic to your site.  The reason is that these sites are very well thought of  by the Google bots and because of that your articles, on said sites, will naturally rank highly for your keywords.

The reason why this will help get more traffic to your site is for two very important reasons…

  1. You will get referral traffic from these articles
  2. The backlinks on these articles will help your page rank

Keyword Optimization

Keyword Optimization is the other point they stressed when writing articles.   Use your keyword(s) throughout your article, but don’t go over board though.  Doing so will quickly become obvious and turn off readers as well as put up a giant red flag for the Google bots.  One more point is to only focus on ONE keyword per article.

The best technique is to mention your keyword about 3 or 4 times.  For a little more emphasis put one in bold, underline another and possible italicize a third.  The reason why this helps is it not only brings visual attention to the keywords, but it sort of acts as a tag making it stand out to the search engine bots more prominently.

Other Guidelines

Make sure to read the terms and conditions for each article publishing site you use.  They give good hints as to what they expect.  For example, ezinearticles.com wants your articles to follow these guidelines…

  • Must be more then 250 words in length
  • Frown upon having links in the body of your article
  • specifically don’t allow links above the fold (first 3 paragraphs I believe)
  • you can place a max of 3 links in your resource box (this is where you put your backlinks)

Going by the mantra “Give more then you Receive” is always a good idea.  This means provide good quality information first and foremost and then politely direct them to more information at the end.

My Stuff

I submitted one article to each of EzineArticles and Scribd.  This led me to the question…

Should I be submitting different Unique articles to each article site or can I submit the same article to multiple sites?

Today I’m going to research that and I’ll report back tomorrow.  It was fairly easy to submit the article to ezine and Scribd, all you need is an account.  EzineArticles uses a human approval system so it could take up to 10 days before an article gets approved.  All this means is you can’t start monitoring it’s ranking or submit it to the social bookmarking sites until it’s published.

Once submitting the articles to these sites, the next step is to let the world know about them.  Since I’m trialing TrafficBug, I will submit both links (my article links) to the service and see what happens.   Below is a screen shot of one of the article I submitted to Scribd (#2) and the other (#1) is the main article on my site that I submitted 2 days ago.

The stats above are as of last night and over time bookmarks, back links and search engine submissions will increase.  If you submit to too many sites, too quickly, google will get wind of what you are doing and slap you.  Slap, is the term used when Google penalizes a site for misconduct (i.e. spamming).  This will cause your page ranking to suffer big time so be careful.

Tomorrow…

Day 11 will bring more article submissions, this time to squidoo.com and hubpages.com

It doesn’t take that much time to write the articles, and if you are serious about being successful you will spend the time to do it. It’s a good skill to have and the quality of your content will be much better if written yourself.
